"The Beyond" — Jan. 9

Activity observed around the wormhole coincides with the appearance of strange, dark orbs in the skies above Earth, which are believed to constitute some sort of "first contact" with intelligent life. "The Beyond" follows the story of a groundbreaking mission to send astronauts — modified with advanced robotics — through the Void to learn more about our place in the universe.

"Annihilation" — Feb. 23
Credit: Peter Mountain A biologist (played by Natalie Portman) is sent on a special mission to Area X, an uninhabited land in which unexplainable things happen to people who travel there. In this area, also known as the "Shimmer" in the film, the laws of nature don't apply. The film, based on Jeff VanderMeer’s novel, follows Portman's character as she embarks on a four-person expedition to Area X in search of clues about her husband's illness, which he developed after visiting the area himself. The crew deals with contamination, vanishing colleagues, alien-like hybrid species and a dangerous creature known as the Crawler.

"Cloverfield 3" — Feb. 2
Credit: Paramount The third installment in the "Cloverfield" universe, previously known as "God Particle," follows a team of astronauts aboard the space station. They fight for survival after a scientific experiment involving a particle accelerator has unexpected results. Following the terrifying discovery, the astronauts find themselves isolated and must fight for survival.

"Avengers: Infinity War" — May 4
Credit: Marvel Studios The Avengers join forces with the Guardians of the Galaxy to defeat the powerful Thanos (played by Josh Brolin), who is trying to collect the Infinity Stones. Thanos was born into a group of superhumans, known as the Eternals, who live on Saturn's moon, Titan. He plans to use the six stones for a gauntlet that will allow him to bend reality to his will.

"Black Panther" — Feb. 16
Credit: Marvel Studios Another highly anticipated Marvel Studios film of 2018 is "Black Panther." The movie is set after "Captain America: Civil War" and follows the story of King T'Challa (Black Panther), who returns home to the reclusive, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to serve as his country's new leader. However, T'Challa must also defend his country and his throne from the enemy.

"A Wrinkle in Time" — March 9
Credit: Atsushi Nishijima Traveling via a wrinkling of time and space known as tessering, the three kids are transported to worlds beyond their imagination, where they encounter strange new beings and must confront a powerful evil that is spreading through the universe. The movie is based on Madeleine L'Engle's 1962 novel of the same name.

"Solo: A Star Wars Story" — May 25
Credit: Lucasfilm The upcoming film focuses on the early days of Han Solo, well before he met up with Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and a pair of droids in 1977's "Star Wars: A New Hope." Similar to 2016's “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," the new film will be a stand-alone installment of the franchise, meaning it is not a part of any of the trilogies. While most plot details are being kept under wraps, the movie is expected to follow the adventures of Han Solo and Chewbacca before they joined the Rebellion, including their early encounters with Lando Calrissian.

"The Predator" — Aug. 3
Releasing in the summer, "The Predator" is the fourth installment in the "Predator" film series, set to take place between "Predator 2" (1990) and "Predators" (2010). While specific plot details are being kept under wraps, the overall theme of the movie will resemble that of the original 1987 film. In that movie, Arnold Schwarzenegger's Dutch ventured into the jungles of Central America, only to find himself hunted by a stealth alien warrior called the Predator. More details and an official trailer for the new movie are expected to be released early next year.

Credit: Patriot Act Movie In this film, the Dropa is a group of aliens that is believed to have crash-landed on Earth thousands of years ago, seamlessly adapting to our planet and infiltrating the human race. A retired government assassin named Harrison (played by David Matranga) was once part of an elite team called the Legion. However, when a rogue Dropa starts picking off members of the Legion, Harrison is forced out of retirement to hunt down the alien responsible for killing the former members of his team.

Credit: Shutterstock In this film, the Dropa is a group of aliens that is believed to have crash-landed on Earth thousands of years ago, seamlessly adapting to our planet and infiltrating the human race. A retired government assassin named Harrison (played by David Matranga) was once part of an elite team called the Legion. However, when a rogue Dropa starts picking off members of the Legion, Harrison is forced out of retirement to hunt down the alien responsible for killing the former members of his team. High Life (TBD) A group of skilled criminals trades in jail time and agrees to participate in a space mission, knowing that they can't return. Over the course of this mission, the crew will have to find alternate energy sources and take part in experiments on human reproduction. Of the crewmembers, the story focuses on a father and his daughter (played by Robert Pattinson and Juliette Binoche) and their relationship as they struggle to survive in the isolation of deep space, which has become a new kind of jail.
